ETUDES

The “Etudes” series combines my own visual symbols for sound and movement with old violin sheet music. Rappahannock County was the venue for the Castleton Festival, the premier opera and concert summer festival in the region directed by the late Lorin Maazel, one of the world’s most esteemed conductors. While housing two of the visiting musicians, I learned that the music scores I was incorporating into my prints were from a series of Etudes by Dvorak, and hence the title for the series.
